What is a 6G Welder?

A 6G welder is a type of welder that uses six-gauge wire. This size of wire is larger than the standard welding cable used in most welders, which makes it better suited for tougher applications.

What qualifications are required to become a 6G Welder?

1. A six-g welder must be registered with the National welding society or a provincial/territorial welding society and have an adequate level of training to weld in accordance with industry standards. 2. Six-g welders need good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and strength because they work with hot metal frequently. 3. They must also have knowledge of arc Welding (the process used most often for joining metals), MIG Welding (a type of wire feed welding that uses gas currents instead of sparks), Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIW), as well as other types of Welded Joints such as butt joints, lap joints and tee joints 4*. 6G welders usually use Argon enriched air when working with GTAW 5*To qualify for this job you will need: -A high school diploma or equivalent;

-Two years experience in fabrication shop environment;

*Some industries may require additional certifications

What are the skills required to become a 6G Welder?

1. Must be able to read and follow welding blueprints 2. Must have good hand-eye coordination 3. Must have the ability to use a welder's torch 4.Must be familiar with basic arc welds 5. Knowledge of oxyacetylene, MIG and TIG Welding
