What is a 6G Welder?

A 6G welder is a type of welder with the ability to weld up to six gauge (0.06 millimeter) thicknesses of metal together. This allows for more detailed welding, as well as repairs and replacements on thicker pieces of metal than would be possible with other types of welders.

What qualifications are required to become a 6G Welder?

1. A 6G Welder must have a minimum of 2 years welding experience.

2. They must be able to use arc welder, MIG and TIG welders with the correct settings for the material they are welding.

3. They must have an understanding of heat treatable alloys and how to properly heat them up so they can be welded without problems later on down the line.

4. Must pass a safety certification exam from either ABET or another recognized certifying body before being allowed to practice as a 6G Welding Technician/Weldor in most locations around the world .

5.. Must possess good mechanical skills and understand machine terminology

What are the skills required to become a 6G Welder?

-The ability to read and understand welding diagrams

-A good working knowledge of arc Welding techniques

-Must be able to work with a variety of welders equipment including MIG, TIG, RF and DC welder machines

-Experience using CAD programs such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is advantageous
