What is a AC Technician?

A AC Technician is someone who repairs and maintains air conditioning units. They may also be responsible for inspecting and testing the systems, as well as providing advice on proper maintenance procedures.

What qualifications are required to become a AC Technician?

A technician may need a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in repairing and installing air conditioning systems, knowledge of refrigerant types, certification as an HVAC contractor by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) or other professional organization. Some employers also require technicians to have passing scores on technical exams such as the Air Conditioning Contractor Licensing Examination (ACCLE) from the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
