What is a AC Technician?

A AC Technician repairs, maintains and installs air conditioning systems in commercial or residential buildings. They may also work on heating and cooling systems. A technician must have a certification from the National Board of Certification for Thermostat Technicians (NBCT).

What qualifications are required to become a AC Technician?

A. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

B. Experience working with AC systems is necessary, as well as knowledge of electricity and wiring diagrams.

C. Technical training in AC technology may be needed in order to qualify for the job.

D. Certification from an accredited technician program may be helpful when applying for a position with a company or government agency.

Eligibility for licensing by state boards also varies depending on the type of work that will be done under supervision of an engineer/installer (ie., installation, maintenance).
