What is a AC Technician?

An AC Technician is a person who repairs, maintains and installs air conditioners. They may also be called an HVAC technician or conditioning contractor.

What qualifications are required to become a AC Technician?

A. A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required for most AC Technician positions.

B. Many AC Technician positions require some form of certification, such as a Journeyman’s Certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from the National Board of Certified Mechanical Technologists (NBCMT).

C. Experience working with air conditioning systems is often necessary for Positions as an AC Technician.

D. Some employers may also prefer applicants who have experience repairing or upgrading air conditioning units, either on their own or under direct supervision of a technician.. .

E Certification from The International Heating & Cooling Association (IHCA) can be helpful in obtaining many technical installer/repair jobs within the HVAC industry; this program offers comprehensive training covering all aspects of heating and cooling technology including climate control, mechanical installation/service procedures and safety issues specific to HVAC systems
