What is a AC Technician?

An AC technician is an expert in the installation, repair and maintenance of air conditioning equipment. They must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be certified by their state as an Air Conditioning Technician and pass a criminal background check.

What qualifications are required to become a AC Technician?

A. A high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a AC Technician.

B. The technician must be able to read and understand technical manuals, have good problem solving skills, and be mechanically inclined.

C. Typically technicians need at least two years of experience in an air conditioning installation or repair field before being eligible for certification by the National Air Conditioning Association (NACA).

D. Certification from NACA requires passing a comprehensive exam that covers all aspects of installing, repairing, and operating commercial HVAC systems including refrigeration units and ventilation systems .

E.. Experience as an apprentice under qualified personnel may count towards fulfilling training requirements for certification with NACA if the applicant has successfully completed an apprenticeship program registered with state licensing agencies
