What is a Auto/Car Mechanic?

A car mechanic is someone who services and repairs cars. They may work on different models of cars, or just one type of car. A lot of mechanics will also do bodywork (repairs to the exterior) and electrical work on a car.

What qualifications are required to become a Auto/Car Mechanic?

1. A degree in automotive mechanics from an accredited college or vocational school is required.

2. Must be licensed by the state to work as a mechanic, and pass a mechanical test given by the state board of mechanics.

3. Generally must have two years of experience working on cars before being allowed to work on advanced vehicles such as hybrids or electric cars/trucks.

4. Must be able to read and understand complex car manuals and schematics, know how various systems operate inside a vehicle, be comfortable using tools in tight spaces, stand for long periods of time while working under pressure, etc..

5. Have excellent problem solving skills

What are the skills required to become a Auto/Car Mechanic?

1. Knowledge of various car parts and how they work.

2. Skilled at using tools to fix cars properly.

3. Excellent problem solving skills when it comes to fixing cars mechanically (knowing what is wrong with a car, finding the correct repair solution).

4. Have strong working knowledge in common mechanics such as fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and fuel injection systems etc...etc.. .
