What is a Auto/Car Mechanic?

A car mechanic is a person who repairs, maintain and tunes automobiles. They may also diagnose problems with the vehicle and provide recommendations on how to address them. A good auto mechanic will have extensive knowledge of automobile mechanics, diagnostics and repair procedures specific to each make or model of car. Many automotive technicians also possess certification from organizations such as the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) or The Institute for Certification in Technical Management (ICTM).

What qualifications are required to become a Auto/Car Mechanic?

-A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

-Six months experience working on vehicles, preferably as a mechanic in an automotive garage.

-Knowledge of auto mechanics and diagnostic equipment, including computerized systems.

-Good problem solving skills and attention to detail.

-Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and mechanical drawings.<br /><br />The qualifications required for becoming a certified auto mechanic vary by state; however most states require candidates pass an accredited certification program that covers both theory and practical application.</p>
