A mechanic is a professional who repairs and maintains automobiles, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles. They typically have a degree in automotive technology or mechanics. Mechanics may also work at car dealerships, repair shops or independent garages.
1. A minimum of an auto mechanic certificate or equivalent from a nationally recognized automotive technician school
2. The ability to read and understand schematics and repair manuals
3. Must be comfortable working with all types of car engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions and electronics
4. Ability to work independently as well as part-time or full-time in a shop setting
5. Excellent customer service skills
