What is a Auto/Car Mechanic?

A car mechanic is a person who repairs and services cars. They may work on vehicles either individually or in groups, and might also be called upon to perform other auto-related tasks such as diagnosing problems. A good car mechanic will have excellent mechanical skills along with the ability to communicate effectively with customers.

What qualifications are required to become a Auto/Car Mechanic?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Auto mechanics must have a minimum of two years' experience working on cars and motorcycles.

3. Mechanics must be able to read and understand automotive repair manuals, diagnose car problems, use tools such as wrenches, sockets, torque wrench etc., and problem-solve under pressure in an auto service center setting.

4 Mechanic training schools typically require apprenticeship programs that last several years before graduates can start work independently as auto mechanics (usually at least 3-5 years). Many mechanic jobs also require certification from the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) or another professional organization like The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
