A car mechanic is someone who repairs, maintains, and services cars. They may work on all makes of vehicles, from small motorcycles to large luxury sedans. Mechanics often need a degree in automotive technology or engineering, but some do not have any formal training at all. A good auto/car mechanic will be able to identify problems with your car quickly and give you accurate estimates for how much it will cost to fix them.
A person who wants to become a car mechanic should have an interest in cars and be familiar with basic mechanics. Car mechanics also need to possess strong problem-solving skills, as they are often called on to fix complex problems with vehicles. They must also be able to read and understand technical manuals, as well as maintain accurate records of repairs. In addition, most auto/car mechanics require certification from the National Automobile Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).
