What is a Building Electrician?

A building electrician is a craftsman who installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems in buildings. They may work for large commercial or municipal organizations, or on their own as an independent contractor. A typical job duties of a building electrician include installing wiring and fixtures, testing circuits and appliances, repairing damaged equipment, troubleshooting problems and attending to safety concerns. Building electricians are also trained in the use of diagnostic tools such as multimeters (electronic testers) and computersized plotters/plotter software programs that can help them identify potential problems with circuitry before they become serious.

What qualifications are required to become a Building Electrician?

An electrician must have a valid license and certification from an accredited organization such as the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). They also need good problem solving skills, strong communication and organizational abilities, and experience in wiring buildings.
