What is a Building Electrician?

A building electrician is a tradesperson who installs, repairs and maintains electrical systems in buildings. They may work on high-rise or commercial construction sites, or in residential neighborhoods. Building electricians typically have a degree in engineering or another related field, and are certified by the National Electrical Code (NEC). They must be able to read schematics and understand wiring diagrams, as well as troubleshoot problems with complex circuits.

What qualifications are required to become a Building Electrician?

1. Minimum of 2 years experience in construction or an electrician-related trade;

2. Valid certification as a Journeyman Electrician from the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA);

3. Current state licensing as a Building Electrician, if required by your jurisdiction;

4. Good working knowledge of liens and debt collection law related to commercial real estate transactions;

5. Excellent customer service skills

What are the skills required to become a Building Electrician?

1. Knowledge of electrical wiring and installation techniques

2. Ability to read schematics and blueprints

3. Skill in using tools, such as a multimeter or screwdriver

4. Experience working with power sources (such as generators)
