What is a Building Electrician?

A building electrician is a person who installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems in buildings. They may work for a municipality or organization that provides electricity to the public, or they may be self-employed. A typical job duties of a building electrician include: wiring installations including new construction as well as retrofits; testing and inspecting circuits and equipment; repairing broken wires and circuitry; installing switches, outlets, light fixtures etc.; troubleshooting power outages.

What qualifications are required to become a Building Electrician?

A person who wants to become a building electrician must have an associate’s degree or equivalent in electrical wiring and installation, knowledge of the NEC code for buildings, experience installing residential and commercial wiring systems, excellent problem-solving skills.
