A CAD designer is someone who creates computer-aided designs, also known as CAD drawings. A CAD drawing is a visual representation of 3D objects or structures that can be used for engineering and manufacturing purposes. A typical task for a CAD designer is to create accurate representations of complex products using various drafting tools and software programs.
1. A college degree in computer science or a related field is required.
2. Experience working with CAD software is necessary, as are knowledge of 3D design principles and techniques.
3. Strong drafting skills are essential, along with proficiency in graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CC+.
4. Excellent problem solving abilities are also needed; designers must be able to identify problems and find solutions quickly using both their mathematical and conceptual thinking skillsets. 5 . Creativity is a critical quality for any CAD designer - they need to have an eye for detail as well as the ability to think outside the box when it comes to designing new products or improving existing ones
- Excellent drawing and drafting skills
- Knowledge of CAD software programs such as AutoCAD, Inkscape or Sketchup
- Familiarity with 3D modelling tools like Maya or 3DS Max

Producing rough sketches and using CAD software to prepare detailed drawings, plans, and blueprints. Following specifications and calculations to create various technical drawings. · Accountable for the maintenance of the CAD drawing library. Preparing both rough sketches and detailed work with CADD systems. Performing calculations for materials and weight limitations. Communicating with architects and engineers, and incorporating knowledge gained into drawings. Preparing, reviewing and redrafting alongside the engineering team. Ensuring final designs are compliant with building regulations. Identifying and communicating potential design problems to the rest of the team. Education & Experience : Associate’s Degree in Drafting or similar. Additional courses in CAD software. Practical experience with CAD software. Knowledge of engineering and construction. Competency : A completed apprenticeship would be advantageous. Strong communication skills and attention to detail. Superb work ethic and ability to accept feedback. Willingness to work overtime when required.
