What qualifications are required to become a Cake Decorator?

1. Cake decorating requires some artistic ability and a good sense of color.

2. It is helpful to have experience with baking or pastry arts, as cake decoration involves a lot of cutting, shaping and frosting.

3. A basic understanding of chemistry is also beneficial, since many ingredients used in cake decoration are acidic or alkaline based and need to be handled properly for the design not to come undone/frosted over prematurely etc…

4. Strong organizational skills are key – often times you will be working with multiple bowls (of different colors), several spoons/piping bags full of various flavors, numerous measuring cups & tablespoons….etc…..and keeping track all at once can be challenging! 🙂

5. Finally- cakes decorated by professional Cake Decorators typically require an additional certification such as Certified Professional Chef (CPC) which demonstrates competence in culinary disciplines beyond those covered by traditional cooking programs like Culinary Arts or Baking & Pastry Arts
