What is a Chef?

A chef is a professional cook who oversees the preparation of food in a restaurant or other culinary setting. A chef may also work in a kitchen as part of an catering operation.

What qualifications are required to become a Chef?

1. A good culinary education is required, usually a degree from a respected cooking school such as Le Cordon Bleu or The Culinary Institute of America.

2. Experience in the restaurant industry may be helpful, although not always necessary for chefs who work in prep kitchens and other front-of-the-house positions.

3. Good communication and problem solving skills are essential because being a chef is often one step removed from managing staff and dealing with customers’ complaints.

4. Some states require chefs to have certifications such as Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP) or American Chef Association MasterChef program certification; others do not mandate any specialized qualifications beyond possessing strong kitchen instincts and some know-how about food production methodsologies..

5. Many large restaurants employ head chefs who possess additional degrees in business administration, marketing, finance etc., providing added leadership and management capabilities within their kitchens

What are the skills required to become a Chef?
