What is a Chiller Technician?

A Chiller Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of chillers in a facility. They monitor and maintain the equipment, troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

What qualifications are required to become a Chiller Technician?

1. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a Chiller Technician.

2. Previous technical experience in cooling equipment and machinery is desirable, but not necessary.

3. Knowledge of refrigeration principles and procedures is important, as are basic math skills such as fractions and decimals (in order to calculate capacity).

4. Ability to read and write standard English is also required for most positions within the industry, as many manuals/documentation used during job duties are written in this language only.

5.. Some states may require certification from an accredited organization such as ICEA before granting employment authorization to applicants seeking careers in the chiller technician field

What are the skills required to become a Chiller Technician?

1. Must have a minimum of an apprenticeship in plumbing, heating or refrigeration technology

2. Experience working with chillers and their components

3. Knowledge of common chilled water systems from around the world

4. Expertise using computers to diagnose problems and operate machinery

5. Certifications such as Journeyman Chiller Technician (JCT) or Master Chiller Technician (MCT)
