What is a Chiller Technician?

A Chiller Technician is a person who specializes in the maintenance and repair of chillers. They may work for businesses that produce ice or refrigerated food, or they may be self-employed. In order to do their job well, a chiller technician must have knowledge about both mechanical and electrical systems used in chillers. What qualifications are required to become a Chiller Technician?

1. A minimum of 2 years experience in a refrigeration or air conditioning installation is required.

2. Experience with chillers and HVAC systems is preferred, but not mandatory.

3. Knowledge of principles behind refrigeration/air conditioning design and operation is essential to be successful as a Chiller Technician.

4. Excellent math skills are necessary for troubleshooting cooling system problems and calculating loads on equipment.*
