A civil engineer is a professional who specializes in the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure facilities, such as roads, bridges, airports and water systems. They work with governments or private companies to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. Civil engineers may also help oversee planning for new installations.
A. A four-year degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.
B. licensure as a civil engineer is not mandatory, but many employers prefer it
C. experience working with engineering design software programs such as AutoCAD and Revit is helpful
D. ability to read, write and understand English well enough to communicate effectively with other engineers and clients
E. knowledge of principles of structural analysis are beneficial
