They also work to ensure that these projects are completed safely and according to specifications. Civil engineers may also be involved in litigation or investigation related to their work.
Civil engineers must have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. They typically require at least four years of post-secondary education and experience working as an engineer. Civil engineers may also need to pass the Professional Engineers Licensing Examination (PEL).
