What is a Civil Engineer?

A civil engineer is a professional who designs, operates, and maintains infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airports, dams and water systems. They also work on projects that improve the quality of life for people in communities throughout the world.

What qualifications are required to become a Civil Engineer?

1. A college degree in civil engineering is required to become a licensed professional engineer (LPE).

2. Areas of study for civil engineers may include structural design, transportation planning, water resources management, and environmental science/engineering.

3. Civil engineers must have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with others on projects.

4. They typically are responsible for the design and implementation of built structures such as roads, bridges, airports, dams and pipelines; land development including infrastructure expansion or replacement; resource assessment ; disaster relief plans ; sustainable urban planning initiatives etc.; working closely with other professionals throughout all phases of project execution from concept through completion .

5. In order to maintain licensure requirements employers often require that LPE’s possess continuing education credits in an area relevant to their practice

What are the skills required to become a Civil Engineer?

1. Knowledge of mathematics, physics and engineering principles

2. Ability to read, analyze and understand complex technical drawings

3. Proven experience in civil infrastructure construction or maintenance

4. Fluent oral and written communication skills for presenting information to clients, engineers, managers and other personnel involved in project management

5. Strong problem-solving abilities
