A construction manager is responsible for overseeing the construction of a project, ensuring that all aspects of the job are completed on time and within budget. They may also be involved in negotiating contracts with vendors, coordinating work crews and making sure everyone working on the project is following safety guidelines. A construction manager typically has a degree in engineering or architecture.
1. A degree in construction management or a related field is generally required.
2. Experience managing large projects, preferably from an engineering perspective, is desirable.
3. Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques is essential for success as a manager; however, experience working with contractors on site also provides valuable insight into how the industry operates.
4 It's important to be able to identify and resolve problems quickly – being able to think outside the box often proves critical in this line of work!
