A cook is someone who prepares food according to specific recipes.
A cook typically needs to be able to operate a stove, oven, or grill; have good hygiene skills; know how to prepare different types of food; and have artistic ability. Some kitchen positions may also require certification such as with the National Restaurant Association (NRA).
A cook needs to be able to read and follow written recipes, have experience in the kitchen cooking various types of food, know how to handle knives safely, have a good sense of taste and smell, be organized and efficient when preparing meals.
