What qualifications are required to become a Crane Mechanic?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a Crane Mechanic.

2. Previous experience working with cranes and heavy machinery is desirable, but not necessary.

3. Certifications such as the Safe Operating Procedures for Cranes (SOP-Cranes) from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) are beneficial, but not mandatory for employment as a Crane Mechanic.

4 Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail are essential in this career field; crane mechanics must be able to identify potential hazards on site and take appropriate steps to prevent them from occurring while maintaining safe operations of the equipment they work on behalf of their employer(s).

5 Above all else, crane mechanics need good teamwork skills – it’s important that they can interface effectively both verbally and nonverbally with other members of their team in order to safely complete tasks at hand
