What is a Finishing Carpenter?

A finishing carpenter is someone who completes the final steps of a construction project, such as installing doors and windows or completing carpentry tasks like trimming and nailing. A finishing Carpenter may also be responsible for painting, staining or applying finishes to furniture, cabinets or walls.

What qualifications are required to become a Finishing Carpenter?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Two years of experience in a related trade, such as masonry, carpentry, or tile work are preferred but not necessary.

3. Excellent hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills are essential for the job.

4. Must be able to read and understand plans and drawings accurately and take appropriate measurements when working on projects.

What are the skills required to become a Finishing Carpenter?

1. The ability to read blueprints and specifications.

2. Attention to detail and the ability to probe areas of a project that need further attention in order to make sure everything is properly aligned and fit together correctly.

3. Excellent problem-solving skills when it comes time resolving problems with projects or materials encountered during construction work (i.e.; using tools, testing fixtures, etc.).

4. Advanced knowledge of woodworking techniques including hand sawing, chiseling, drilling & screwdriving – as well as understanding how different woods behave under specific conditions (seasonal changes/drying out).
