What is a Fire Fighting Technician?

A firefighting technician is a firefighter who has specialized training in extinguishing fires. They may be called upon to help put out large fires, or small ones that have become unmanageable. A firefighting technician typically wears protective clothing and equipment, including a helmet, oxygen tank, and hose.

What qualifications are required to become a Fire Fighting Technician?

1. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a Fire Fighting Technician.

2. Candidates must be physically fit and able to work long hours in challenging environments.

3. technicians must have excellent problem-solving skills and good judgement in emergency situations, which may include handling hazardous materials and working with firefighting equipment that can produce intense heat, smoke, water spray and toxic fumes.

4. In order for candidates to achieve certification as a certified firefighter technician (CFTC), they need successfully complete an accredited program that includes hands-on training at supervised facilities with experienced firefighters/technicians conducting the instruction . 5 . Certification from one of several national organizations such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is also necessary prior to employment as a professional firefighter/.
