Requirements and skills Experience as a Gardener Familiarity with landscaping design Extensive knowledge of regional plant life Knowledge of local pests and how to eliminate them Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilizers Knowledge of state health and safety regulations for landscaping The ability to lift heavy objects The ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time A love of the outdoors and plant life A high school degree

A gardener is someone who cares for plants and flowers. They may plant, water, fertilize, and monitor the growth of plants in a garden or other outdoor area.
The qualifications required to become a gardener vary depending on the region in which you reside. Generally, though, gardeners need an understanding of plant growth and development as well as basic gardening skills. Some common requirements include training in horticulture or landscape design, prior experience tending plants, and knowledge of appropriate soil preparation techniques. Gardeners typically must also be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
1. The ability to identify different types of plants and know how to care for them.
2. Knowledge of gardening tools and methods, such as weeding, pruning, planting flowers or vegetables etc.
3. Patience in waiting for the desired results from one's garden work – sometimes it can take weeks or even months before you see any improvement!
4. Strong attention to detail when tending to individual plants - ensuring they are getting the right amount of water, sunlight & fertilizer; keeping an eye out for pests/diseases that could affect their health & wellbeing; being able to recognise good flower varieties vs those which need extra TLC (time/fertiliser)

I. JOB SUMMARY Responsible for the general maintenance of the gardens, plants and lawns at the Hotel. And also maintain the beautification of the lawns and gardens in order to attract guests to hotels lush and green surroundings. II. Main Duties and Responsibilities • Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting. • The use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery. • The use of cylinder and rotary mowers, strimmer’s, leaf blowers. • Adjustments of mower height and quality of cut, etc. • Oil level checks and check for damage to any mower. • Report equipment malfunctions to engineering as and when noticed. • To be aware of Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current Health & Safety at Work legislation. • To ensure all equipment, machinery are stored securely and clean after use. • Plant and transplant flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns. • Maintain gardens by naturally fertilizing, trimming and making sure that plants are receiving adequate water. • Prune trees and hedges in ways that help the plants' health, are safe and look good. • Maintain lawn and grass areas using machinery, natural fertilizers but no chemicals. • To keep the gardens, thoroughfares and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times. • Planting (purchasing, organizing etc.) • Pruning and cutting hedges. • Outside maintenance including pathways, pond, steps, walls etc. • Tiding up and cleaning outside of the hotel building. • Keep the tool shed / store room clean and tidy. • Good knowledge of plants, must be organized and able to follow schedule. III. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES • Cleanliness and orderliness of the gardens, plants and lawns at the Hotel. IV.
