What is a Graphic Designer?

A graphic designer is a professional who creates visual graphics, such as logos, brochures and advertising. They may also design web pages or create illustrations for books or magazines. A graphic designer typically works with clients to come up with ideas that will represent their business effectively. Graphic designers often have a degree in art or design, but they can also obtain certification through organizations like the International Association of Commercial Designers (IACD).

What qualifications are required to become a Graphic Designer?

1. Excellent artistic ability and visual literacy; strong attention to detail and a flair for composition.

2. Knowledge of typography, layout, graphic design principles, printing techniques and software applications such as Photoshop or InDesign.

3. Experience working with digital files (photo editing software like GIMP is helpful).

4. Proven experience designing covers for e-books or print publications preferred but not required (see below).

5. A passion for creative expression – it’s more than just creating pretty pictures!

What are the skills required to become a Graphic Designer?

1. Ability to visualize and communicate ideas through drawings or images.

2. Experience creating layouts for print or electronic media, including familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign programs.

3. Familiarity with typography principles, layout techniques, and branding guidelines desired in the design industry.
