A HVAC Technician is a person who installs, repairs, or maintains heating and cooling systems. They are also responsible for keeping the building climate controlled. A HVAC technician may also be called an air conditioning installer, AC repairman/woman, central air conditioner serviceman/woman, refrigeration mechanic (repair), heat pump service technician or system designer.
1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. Certification as a HVAC Technician is preferred, but not necessary for most jobs in the industry.
3. Good hands-on skills and experience with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are essential for many technician positions.
4. Must be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints of various types of HVAC systems, as well as operate basic tools related to HVAC work such as drills/drivers and saws/chisels/mills used in system maintenance or repairs..
5: Be physically fit enough to do some heavy lifting, crawl through small spaces, stand up under pressure for extended periods of time etc., while working on installation or repair projects
