What is a Machinist?

A machinist is a person who works with machines to make things. They may work in factories or elsewhere, but the most common place for them to be is in a machine shop. Machinists do everything from making parts for other people's machines to doing their own repairs and modifications on those same machines.

What qualifications are required to become a Machinist?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Working with machines and using hand tools are essential skills for a machinist.

3. Experience in metalworking is preferred, but not necessary to be successful as a machinist.

4. Knowledge of blueprinting, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes is important for success as a machinist; apprenticeship may be the best route to acquiring these skillsetes .
