What is a Mechanical Technician cum Driver?

A Mechanical Technician cum Driver is a technician who oversees the installation, calibration and repair of mechanical equipment. They are also responsible for driving the machinery.

What qualifications are required to become a Mechanical Technician cum Driver?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Must have a valid driver's license and meet mechanical technician requirements outlined by state board of vocational education & technical training (BVETT).

3. Pass an automotive mechanics test, which typically includes knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems and other vehicle components.

4. Have at least two years experience in the mechanic field OR complete an approved apprenticeship program with no less than 2200 hours under direct supervision from a certified mechanic journeyman/apprentice before applying for certification or licensure as a Mechanical Technician cum Driver in your state*.

5. Maintain current registration as either a Mechanic Technicians Cum Drivers*or Mechanics through BVETT-approved provider(s)** .
