What is a MOTOR MECHANIC?

A motor mechanic is a technician who repairs and maintains engines, transmissions, drive shafts, axles, brakes and other mechanical components in vehicles. Motor mechanics may also work on motorcycles or cars with specialty equipment such as drag racers. They typically have an associate's degree in automotive technology or auto repair.

What qualifications are required to become a MOTOR MECHANIC?

A. A high school diploma or equivalent

B. Two years of experience working on motorcycles

C. The ability to read and understand technical manuals related to motorcycle repairs

D. Certification from an organization such as the International Motorcycle Mechanics Association (IMMA) or American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) certifying that they have met minimum competency standards in motor mechanics work areas

E Certifications, licenses, and other credentials may also be required depending upon the jurisdiction

What are the skills required to become a MOTOR MECHANIC?

1. Knowledge of engines and basic mechanics

2. Proven experience repairing cars or motorcycles

3. Skilled at using tools, including handtools, power tools and equipment

4. Familiar with a variety of automotive systems and components
