A Pipe Fitter is someone who installs, repairs and replaces pipes in buildings. They use their knowledge of pipe anatomy and mechanics to properly install or replace piping systems.
1. A pipe fitter must have a valid certification such as the National Pipe Fitter Association (NPA) Registered Professional Inspector, or hold an equivalent certification from another organization.
2. Knowledge of various types of piping systems is essential for a pipe fitter.
3. The ability to read and interpret blueprints is also important, along with experience working on actual pipeline projects.
4. Experience in welding and fabricating metal pipes is necessary for many positions within the trade; some firms may require certifications in these areas as well.
5.. In order to be accepted into most apprenticeship programs, a pipefitter typically needs at least 2 years of related work experience under their belt (although this varies by program).
