What is a Piping Fabricator?

A piping fabricator is a specialist who designs, manufactures and supplies pipework for various industries. They may specialise in specific types of pipe such as sanitary or water pipes, gas mains or heating cables. They also often work with other trades to create complete assembly lines for products like appliances or vehicles.

What qualifications are required to become a Piping Fabricator?

1. A four-year degree in fabricating or engineering is required.

2. Experience in fabricating piping, tubing and other pipe products is preferred but not required.

3. Certification as a Fabricator (CFR) from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is desired but not necessary for most Piping Fabricators to work successfully in the industry today

4. Familiarity with computer aided drafting software such as Catia or SolidWorks would be an asset; many companies now require their employees to have proficiency in CAD before being considered for employment .

5.. Must pass a criminal background check

What are the skills required to become a Piping Fabricator?

1. Knowledge of metal fabrication processes and tools

2. Experience in fabricating piping systems from solid stock or wire forms

3. Familiarity with welding techniques, including gas tungsten arc Welding (GTAW) and MIG/MAG welding

4. Skill in using CAD software to create designs for fabricated components

5. Strong problem solving skills
