A planning engineer is a professional who helps to establish and maintain plans for infrastructure, businesses and communities. They may work in government or private industry, designing solutions that meet specific needs. A key part of the job involves analyzing data and developing proposals based on sound analysis. Planning engineers typically have a degree in engineering or another related field, as well as experience working with complex calculations and maps.
1. A bachelor's degree in planning or a related field is required.
2. Experience working with land use regulations and mapping software is necessary.
3. Strong math skills are needed to understand spatial data, projections, and modeling techniques used by planners.
4. Excellent problem solving abilities are essential for work as a planner; often times one must find creative solutions to complex challenges faced during project development or implementation phases of projects.
5._A knowledge of zoning laws and regulations is also helpful, as many planning issues relate directly to municipal code provisions governing the placement of buildings and other physical developments within municipalities
