What is a Plumber?

A plumber is someone who repairs and installs plumbing systems in homes or businesses. They may also work on sewer lines, drains, water heaters, toilets, showers and other bathroom fixtures. Plumbers are typically licensed by the state and must undergo extensive training to be certified.

What qualifications are required to become a Plumber?

1. A degree in plumbing from a accredited school is required.

2. Several years of experience are necessary to be considered for most plumbers positions.

3. Certification through the National Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (NAPMO) or American Board of Plumbing and Heating is often required by employers, though not always mandatory depending on the region you reside in or work in.(ex: ABP certification may only be needed if you plan to do residential service).

4. Knowledge about water supply systems, drainage systems, gas lines, traps & valves as well as repairing any type of piping system are all important skills that many successful plumbers possess.(these days with so much technology involved it's become even more critical!). Lastly being able to read blueprints/drawings is also beneficial since many installations involve working within confined spaces!(think: ceilings & walls!)
