What is a Quality Engineer?

A quality engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS) in an organization. The QMS defines the standards of excellence that must be met by products, services, processes and systems. It also specifies how results should be measured and reported to management. A quality engineer may also work with customers or users to improve product performance.

What qualifications are required to become a Quality Engineer?

1. A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required.

2. Experience as a quality engineer is preferred, but certification from an accredited organization such as the American Society for Quality (ASQ) or The British Standards Institution (BSI) may be acceptable instead.

3. Knowledge of design methods and principles, manufacturing processes, and statistical analysis are essential; proficiency in computers and software tools also helps to achieve success as a quality engineer.

4 Strong problem-solving abilities are necessary sinceQuality engineers must identify defects during early stages of product developmentand recommend solutions that meet customer expectations while minimizing costs associated with corrective action(s).
