A steel fabricator is someone who manufactures or creates steel products. They may work in a factory, or on their own at home. A fabricator might make things like cars, buildings, bridges and other large structures out of metal.
The Department of Labor states that a person must have at least an associate's degree in welding, fabricating, or metalworking and 3 years of experience. Additionally, the individual must pass a written test on safety standards for steel fabrication.
-The ability to read and understand blueprints
-The ability to operate a computerized machine tool
- The ability to weld, fabricate and assemble metal structures
- Advanced math skills including fractions, decimals and percentages
