What is a AC Technician?

A AC Technician is someone who specializes in repairing and maintaining air conditioning units. They may also be able to install new air conditioners, or service existing ones.

What qualifications are required to become a AC Technician?

A. A high school diploma or equivalent

B. Two years of experience as an electrician

C. Membership in a national technical association such as the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA)

D. Certification from the North American Board of Electrical Inspectors (NABEI) or Canadian Standards Association/National Electric Code Examining Committee (CSA-NE) certification process

E. Ability to read and write basic electrical schematics

What are the skills required to become a AC Technician?

1. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

2. Proven experience in installing, repairing or maintaining AC systems

3. Exceptional knowledge of voltage, current and power measurement tools

4. Excellent troubleshooting skills including the ability to isolate faulty components
