An architect is a professional who designs and plans buildings. Architects may work for private firms, government agencies, or educational institutions. They typically have a bachelor's degree in architecture or related field and must pass an exam to become licensed in the United States.
The qualifications required to become an architect vary depending on the country or region in which they practice. Generally, however, architects must have a degree in architecture from a accredited school and pass either the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) or National Council Licensing Examination for Architects (NCLEA). In some cases, such as California and New York City, postgraduate degrees may be necessary in order to qualify for certain positions.
