What is a Body Massage Therapist?

A body massage therapist is a professional who provides massages to individuals. They use their hands and fingers to work on different parts of the skin, aiming to provide relief from tension or pain. A typical session lasts about 30 minutes and can include Swedish, deep-tissue, Shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy or other relaxation techniques.

What qualifications are required to become a Body Massage Therapist?

1. A degree in massage therapy is required.

2. Minimum 2 years of experience as a body masseuse is needed to become certified by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMSTA).

3. Certification through AMSTA requires passing an exam and completing continuing education requirements annually.

4. Therapists must be licensed in their state or territory according to regulations set forth by professional organizations such as the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) or State Boards of Medicine (SBMs).

5. As with any profession, certification and licensure alone do not ensure excellence; therapists must also adhere to ethical codes of conduct established by professional associations and regulators
