What is a Building Electrician?

A building electrician is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining wiring in buildings. They may also be called upon to troubleshoot electrical problems.

What qualifications are required to become a Building Electrician?

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a Building Electrician. In addition, some provinces/states may require that an apprentice be registered with the provincial/state apprenticeship authority prior to being employed as a building electrician. Some common requirements for registration include passing an aptitude test and having completed appropriate training programs. Many employers also prefer candidates who have experience working in construction settings or possess certification from professional organizations such as the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) or Canadian Union of Provincial Municipalities (CUPM).
