What is a Building Electrician?

A building electrician is a tradesman who installs, repairs and maintains electrical systems in commercial or residential buildings. They may also work with lighting and air conditioning systems. A building electrician typically has a college degree in engineering or related field, along with years of experience installing, repairing and maintaining various types of electrical equipment.

What qualifications are required to become a Building Electrician?

1. A four-year degree in an engineering field is required for most positions as a building electrician.

2. Experience installing and repairing wiring systems in buildings is desirable, but not necessary.

3. Must be able to read blueprints and understand construction drawings properly to install electrical systems correctly.

4. Good communication skills are needed since the trade involves working with other tradespeople frequently on projects.

5 . Minimum safe standards must be met while performing work such as using proper tools, wearing gloves, etc
