What is a Cake Decorator?

A cake decorator is a person who helps to create and design the look of cakes. They may help with decoration such as frosting or icing, adding flowers, leaves, or other decorations to the cake. Some people also work in bakeries where they help make pastries like croissants or éclairs from scratch.

What qualifications are required to become a Cake Decorator?

1. A basic understanding of cake baking and decorating principles is required.

2. Skills in using a variety of kitchen tools, including an oven, mixer, spoon, measuring cups and spoons are ideal.

3. Knowledge about texture decoration techniques (e.g., fondant icing) is also advantageous as many cakes require this type of embellishment to give them the desired look and feel.*

4. Cake decorators must be able to work quickly under pressure – often times having several customers waiting for their creations – while maintaining high standards for quality control**

5 . Exceptional organisational skills are essential as often times there are several steps involved in each cake design that need to be coordinated perfectly in order not to let the cake presentation fall apart
