What is a Heavy Driver?

A Heavy Driver is a type of driver that can handle more weight and/or cargo than other types. They are typically designed for commercial use and have larger wheels and stronger axles to support the load.

What qualifications are required to become a Heavy Driver?

1. A valid driver's license.

2. Certification as a Heavy Driver from the NMMC or CCDL program of your state or province.

3. At least 2 years driving experience, with at least 1 year in a heavy-duty truck classification (eagle, king cab, etc.).

4. Good physical condition and safe driving record; Must be able to pass background check and drug test if required by company policy.(NOTE: Many companies now require CDL holders who want to becomeHeavy Drivers to also have an endorsement on their license for HAZMAT.)

5. Be willing and able to work long hours under harsh conditions

What are the skills required to become a Heavy Driver?

1. Knowledge of heavy vehicle operation and maintenance

2. Ability to read diagrams and understand engineering specifications

3. Experience operating a tractor-trailer combination or large truckload transporter

4. Strong safety orientation, including understanding hazard recognition and avoidance procedures for heavy vehicles

5. Excellent communication skills
