A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is a technician who repairs and maintains heavy equipment, including construction vehicles, excavators, trucks and tractors. They may also be responsible for maintaining the machines themselves. A Heavy Equipment Mechanic typically has a high school diploma or equivalent education in mechanical engineering or another technical field. They must have extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and maintenance as well as strong problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues quickly.
1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. Experience operating heavy equipment is a plus, but not necessary.
3. Good mechanical skills are essential for this occupation; knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics also helpful.
4 Strong math skills are needed to understand complex machinery diagrams and troubleshooting problems on machines.<br />5 A valid driver's license with a Class C or higher rating is required
