What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC technician is someone who installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. They are responsible for ensuring that buildings have the correct temperature levels in all areas so that people can work comfortably. A HVAC technician may also be involved in emergency response when there is a problem with the system.

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

2. Three years of experience in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) repair/installation

3. Current certifications for HVAC installation/repair such as the National Air-Conditioning Contractors Association (NACCAN), American Refrigerator Institute (ARI), or Canadian Home Builders' Association Certification Program certification

4. Knowledge in safety procedures when working with gas and electric systems

5. Proven ability to work independently
