What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems in homes or businesses. They may also be called upon to perform repairs on these systems during emergencies. A typical career path for a HVAC technician includes apprenticeship training followed by certification from the National Air Conditioning Association (NACA).

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a HVAC Technician.

2. Experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems is beneficial but not necessary for admission into the technician program.

3. Certification from one of several national certifying bodies (NCCA-CSAHMS, ICC) may be required prior to employment as a HVAC Technician; however this certification is not mandatory for eligibility to take the technician exam(s).

4. Candidates must have good problem solving skills and possess manual dexterity in order to work with mechanical equipment such as compressors and fans.

5. In addition excellent customer service skills are important because technicians often interact directly with customers during repairs or installations
