What is a HVAC Technician?

A HVAC technician is a skilled professional who installs, repairs and maintains heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. They may also work with renewable energy sources such as solar panels or wind turbines. A typical career path for a HVAC technician includes apprenticeship training followed by on-the-job experience in various positions within the industry. Some common duties include inspecting system components for wear and tear, diagnosing problems and making recommendations to fix them, installing new equipment or repairing existing units, cleaning ducts and filters - all while ensuring proper operation of the entire facility.

What qualifications are required to become a HVAC Technician?

1. A college degree in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technology or a related field is required.

2. Certification from the National Air-Conditioning Refrigeration Institute (NACHRI) or American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is generally recommended for most positions.

3. Experience repairing HVAC systems is often preferred; however, training can be provided to those who are new to the profession.

4._ Mechanical experience with refrigerants and gas appliances may also be helpful as many HVAC installations use these gases on a regular basis_.

5._ Although not always necessary, working knowledge of Spanish might be advantageous in some areas due to increased Hispanic populations
